The Class: A Memoir of a Place, a Time, and Us
On Tuesday, September 6, 1960, class 9G at Etobicoke Collegiate Institute in a suburb of Toronto assembled for the first time. Its thirty-five students, having written special exams, came to be known as the 'Selected Class.' They would stay together through high school, with few exceptions, spending more than two hundred days a year together.
Ken Dryden was one of those thirty-five students, and over the course of his life he often wondered what had become of these people. With The Class, Dryden explores the stories of his classmates, as well as his own, to find a timeless universality. The result is a beautifully written, funny, affectionate, tough, clear-eyed, and deeply personal tale of a place, of a time, of them, and of us.
