Canadian poet and priest Frederick George Scott became a chaplain in the Canadian Expeditionary Force in his fifties and was sent to France during the first world war where he insisted (despite many close calls) that he remain close to the front line to give assistance to the wounded.  Decorated for his bravery under fire, Scott eventually returned home where he wrote The Great War As I Saw It based on his experiences.

Filled with heart-wrenching descriptions and tragic detail written in evocative language befitting his background as a poet, The Great War As I Saw It is a powerful meditation on the Canadian experience during World War I that lays bare the horrors of modern warfare and offers an important perspective on the life of an ordinary soldier.
